Nura
Nura means Country in Darug.
The inspiration behind this painting was the two mobs with whom my family and I belong, Darug - represented by the large meeting circle on the left and Darkinjung - represented by the large meeting circle on the right. Between them is water symbolising Deerubbin (Darug name for the Hawkesbury river).
Darug land is on the south side of Deerubbin and Darkinjung is on the North side.
The mountains on Country are featured in this painting along with yams and yam daisies, stars, gum leaves, kangaroo tracks and bush berries. These are just some of the natural wonders found here on Country that Darug and Darkinjung people have enjoyed for tens of thousands of years.
